mga pusang gala premiere night

it's now a minute after 12mn so technically i have to say that last night, i attended the premiere night of ellen ongkeko-marfil's independent film mga pusang gala at the cinema 2 of greenbelt 3.

(have been trying to post a one whole poster but this is the best i can come up with)

actually, the world premiere of ma'am ellen's mga pusang gala was held aorund last february at the international women's month-or-something celebration. then it participated in this year's pink film festival which had screenings in gateway and up film institute

this premiere night is just the premiere of the film's commercial run which will start august 17.

well, i was lured to attend and watch it for the second time by the free preshowcocktails. hehehe. although we arrived a little late, konting food na lang naabutan namin. but i must say, ang sarap sarap ng chicken sotanghon, crablets, fried kangkong, at biko.

hayyyy... the usual cocktails. another chance to brush elbows with the industry people. seen some actors, directors, etc... people which are becoming familiar faces. yeah yeah yeah.

congrats to ma'am ellen! best regards to mga pusang gala!

let's support independent filmmaking!

so much for my tv debut!

there. i was on live national television early this morning... on a segment called atomic bam on studio 23's breakfast. yes, my television debut.

this morning was a blast. as in blast kung blast.

woke up effortlessly at exactly 4am. took a shower and did the least that i can do to my facial hair--shave. which ended with a shave cut above my lip. also, the least thing you want on your face hours before your television debut! could do nothing to hide it, but at the very least, was able to stop it from bleeding. naging isa siyang major issue. pero i kept my hopes high and diverted my attention from the cut.

made my way to sgt. esguerra avenue in quezon city from parañaque. arrived 20 minutes ahead of the 6.30am calltime. and yeah, the guards at the entrance were nice. they were so nice that they don't bother if people entering without abscbn id's are really guests or not. hindi ako kagad dumerecho sa studio #17. nahihiya kasi ako. didn't want to have that clueless face. so i waited for kriz at the entrance.

hindi siya yung kasama ko sa segment kundi si trixie na sa mga pnahong iyon ay nasa balintawak exit pa lang ng nlex! he just went there to support us since he was responsible for putting us in that show. (thaaaanks so much kriz! mwehehe)

and i few minutes later, kriz and i were at the studio #17. at so0o0o0o0brang lamig. we stayed sa audience area and the news clips we were to discuss sa segment. talk about pinaghalong lamig at kaba. i did not have my jacket with me so sobrang, nanginginig ako. pati ngipin ko nagchachatter! JITTERS KUNG JITTERS!

sabay hirit si kriz na "i don't get it why you're so nervous". kumusta naman diba? thanks, it helped a lot. ahahaha.

the show started a bit late. so jampacked at sunod-sunod ang segments. ours was included in the first few segments. so when we were cued for make-up, si trixie pa lang ang namemake-up-an ng biglang we were called back to the studio.

so, ok lang kahit wala akong make-up, but then, the cut was obviously shouting pink. two pink lines above my lips. kumusta? argh. i just have to do the segment, i thought. and another least thing i could do was to sit in a way that the cut would be minimally or really unseen in the tv screen. so i sat beside bam aquino. perfect! my right side faces the camera. but then, bam gets to see my left side. at ang una niyang sabi sakin, "oh, what's that? shave cut?" and so i replied, yeah yeah...

well the segment went fine. except from some blunders from me, and my occasional expressions "uh-uhm" and slang "parunggg"... i enjoyed it. and it was, relatively long. it lasted 10 whole minutes. a show under time pressure like breakfast, could not allow a segment to be that long... but i believe bam and atom araullo enjoyed our company kaya hindi na alintana ang haba ng segment namin. well, same here. i enjoyed it as well.

but it was awkward, i really wanted a photo with them taken. pero walang time, wala din sa lugar. the set was so0o0o busy. after atomic bam, they prepared na agad for the next segment. although accomodating si bam, hindi naman pwedeng magstay pa kami sa set ni trix. so we just decided to leave the studio and have coffee at choco kiss.

woohoo! it was really fun. really really really. on our way to UP, biglang dagsa ang mga text sa amin ni trixie. nagulat pa ako na may nakapanuod saking hyskul friend ko na hindi ko naman nasabihang manuod. ahahaha.

oh. whattaday! 10 minutes of fame, over.

now, we're getting ready, trix and i, for our next tv guesting... hehehehe. y speak, maybe? that's soon! very soon! ahahaha

ready for my tv debut?

NOOOOOOOOO!

I'M NOOOOOOOT!

first, i forgot to have a haircut. i planned to go to sm bicutan later this afternoon but i was busy doing the cineastes' sigsheet any was tuned in to gloria's state of the nation address, that's why i forgot.

second, i don't know what to wear. my best clothes are in the laundry bin and just as well, i forgot to wash one.

third, i don't know where studio #17 is. but trixie said the guards are mabait and they will show me the way.

fourth, and major problem, the topic on tomorrow's atomic bam segment of breakfast is gloria's sona. yeah, i listened to the sona. but the thing is, i still am unsure of my take on her sona. arrrgh. but generally, i believe, what effing things she said this afternoon, i agree for the most part. however, the speech was lacking and avoiding issues which were expected of her to address. like, her take on the scandal she's in to and the pending impeachment case. but i believe that she made it clear in her sona that it's time to address the more real problems our country is facing. enough of this political show. on to solving poverty and hunger.

oh great! now i think, i just made my piece. hmmm... yeah. darn! i'm less worried now. hehehe.

got to sleep now. big day ahead!

what drives me

what keeps me eager to get back to quezon city after the weekends is a new week of work, work, and more work.

call me workaholic... or a freakazoid... or whatever. just don't call me meky. (private joke there)

i love my work. i love working for my org. i love my org. every little bit of it.

it's not bragging to brag that our org is the only org which has events every week. magnitude just varies.

pero sana dumating din ang time na what drives me will be acads. oh my. i'm forgetting, i should be studying. ang grades... ang grades...

toink!

my inbox has never been this all-star powerhouse

DISCLAIMER: what you are about to see may pose to be bragging and boastful. also, the contents may seem offensive, but the retelling of the account is based on facts and unbiased truth. reader discretion is advised.

it started last thursday afternoon. at around 2pm, i was at the UP Film Institute, doing calls and sending faxes to the speakers, panelists, and moderators of the 1st Cinemalaya Film Congress. i was just a student volunteer but everybody in the office made me feel like an employee already! good thing or bad? ahahaha... well, i enjoyed 'working' even if we went home at around 10pm. overtime kagad!

the next day, Friday, was the start of the film congress at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Little Theater. the program started late of schedule (as usual). but the 1st panel discussion did not start until around quarter to 2pm. and that time between 8.30am and 2pm, my mobile was as hot as pancakes. smsing and calling panelists and speakers, reminding them to arrive 30 minutes ahead of their schedule: indie filmmaker Kidlat Tahimik, and directors Nick Deocampo, Erik Matti, and Jeffrey Jeturian. was bugging them with text messages as the organizers were bugging me about there whereabouts. eventually, all of them showed up... late. but at least they were there for the forum.

but my mobile did not rest until 4pm when the next panel discussion started with a new set of panelists, namely indie filmmaker and Palme d'Or winner Raymond Red, filmmakers Mark Meily and Quark Henares, and cinematographers Nap Jamir and Robert Quebral. This batch was a younger one compared to the first batch, so I had easier time making arrangements with them. And this is the batch which consistently replied to my every message. Thus, my inbox reached maximum capacity. And it was starstrucky 'coz once i open my inbox, these are the only names contained in it. =)

and so that was the first day of the film congress. come Saturday, the congress continued for its final day. and again, my job was to contact the new two batches of panelists. the third batch comprised of directors Gil Portes, and Carlitos Siguion-Reyna, indie filmmakers Ellen Ongkeko-Marfil, and Cris Pablo (Cineastes alumni), producer Joji Alonzo, and govt official Benel Lagua. And the last and fourth panel included singaporean Philip Cheah, media executives Wilson Tieng, Lucas Pasiliao, and Brenda Bayhon, producer Robbie Tan, actor/director/producer Cesar Montano, and SM Cinema executive Ric Camaligan.

Perhaps the most difficult to communicate with is the fourth batch. Since most of them are executives, of course, i still have to relay my message to their secretaries or assistants before to them. But they were all nice.

Here are some quotable and memorable experiences with them:

1. No matter how many times you barrage them with messages and reminders for them to arrive at least, 30 minutes before their schedule, they will not arrive early. Some of the early birds include Robbie Tan, Ellen Ongkeko-Marfil, Raymond Red, Nick Deocampo, and Erik Matti. The horror list obviously goes to the unmentioned.

2. The congeniality award goes to Jeffrey Jeturian. Among them , he is the least intimidating and he stands out as the most apologetic for being late. 2 awards for you! ahaha.

3. The primadona award goes to Gil Portes. 1st, he refuses to attend because he claims the invitation was not sent to him. 2nd, he then agrees and assures to be there 8.30am. 3rd, clock strikes 8.30am, he texts, 'i am on my way, is the restaurant open for breakfast?' (so i have to check if it is open) 4th, he demands me to buy him a ticket for that night's screening of Bigtime, as consolation for his waking up early for the forum. and 5th, but when i checked at the box office that it is sold out and is no longer selling tickets, he texts, 'that is the least you can do. is this how you treat your guest?'
argh. no wonder your films suck bigtime!

4. The smiley award goes to Quark Henares. the only one who sends sms with a smiley.

5. The catch-me-if-you-can award also goes to Gil Portes. 'nuff said.

6. The anlabo-ng-text-mo-chong award goes to Kidlat Tahimik. no offense meant. it's just that we were wondering when he said he was three LRT stations away, it seemed he wasn't. hehehe. but credits for him for the best surprise in a speech. haha. you're the best, kidlat!

7, The oops award goes to Mark Meily. at 2.04pm, he sent this: 'Thanks.Wil try to go thereASAP.Comng from Cinémalaya judgng n Dream theatr makati'
thank you, Mr Meily, now we know you are one of the Cinemalaya Film Festival judges who are supposed to be a top secret until the announcement of the festival winner on saturday. ahahaha. gotcha!

8. The i'm lost award goes to Quark Henares. At 3.39pm, he sent this: 'Just left my shoot in Makati Ű see you soon!' a little later at 3.47pm, he sent: 'Andre where in up will th panel discussion be? Ű'

something light.

oh, i was reading the last few posts on my blog and i found out that they are so0ooo heavy materials.

so something light for now:

i was so overwhelmed by the turnout of attendees to today's Pinoy/Blonde Forum with Peque Gallaga, Epy & Boy2 Quizon. Our org, the UP Cineastes' Studio is so grateful to all of you who rocked today!

students from eng'g, business add, and other colleges as well also came. well, aside from masscomm students, that is.

and... Epy and Boy2 were so nice. but i believe Boy2 looks better and 'cleaner' in person.

and.. . i had my Pinoy/Blonde poster and the trailer dvd signed by the three of them. and photographsssss taken! have to post it here when the owner of the digicam uploads them!

congratulations too to all the Cineastes! we rock!

woohoo! event: SUCCESS!!!!!

dont be effing hypocrites

'coz everybody's beginning to be.

or should i say, a lot really are.

IF YOU EFFING WANT GLORIA TO RESIGN BECAUSE SHE EFFING CHEATED IN THE EFFING ELECTIONS...

EFF YOU ALL!

EFFING CALL FOR THE RESIGNATION OF ALL THE EFFING POLITICIANS! 'COZ NOT AN EFFING SINGLE SOUL DID NOT EFFING CHEAT IN ANY EFFING ELECTION!!!

students cheat. husbands and wives cheat. businesmen and women cheat. and so do every powersuckers.

eff them all. so why blame just one?

KASI SA MGA MANDARAYA, SIYA YUNG NANALO.

moral of the story: make sure that when you cheat, you will win.

gloria should not resign. gloria will be forced to resign.

this god-forbidden country just had had enough of people power revolutions.

it is so pathetic that everybody wants power for himself/herself/themselves.

shut all your asses up! g*ddamit! people are dying of hunger... families are being torn apart... i want people's taxes be used to feed the hungry, cure the sick, and educate the youth... and not be wasted on useless and senseless crappy hearings!!!

but it's so clear to see that her days are numbered. she will eventually be forced to resign.

and when that happens, rest assured that every president who will be elected/placed to power from then on will never be able to finish his/her term. not one will.

so much for your democracy.

of canadIA, rwanda, africa, and those bastardly filthy rich countries

arguing over whether the canadian embassy's hosting of a cocktail at the UP Film Institute is free and open to students or not:

andre: yung sa australian film fest, libre eh.. so siguro libre din yung sa CANADIA (read: ka-ney-ja).

adrian, kriz, tez: (tinatawanan lang ako)

mwehehe.

and yes, the cocktail was free and open to students. oh the usual pre-screening cocktail-cum-sosyalan-cum-eatallyoucangalore, food prepared by chocolate kiss. oh yessss! chicken fillet.. sausage wrapped in bacon... pesto... vietnamese spring rolls... veggie sticks... and oh those cakes! kahlua butter cake! carrot cake! devil's food cake!

i was so0o0o0o0o0o bloated! if only i have supper like that every night, i'd be fat by now.

speaking of devils... the canadian film fest at the up film institute opened this night with the documentary Shaking Hands with the Devil. it is also its premiere screening here in the philippines. it follows the story of romeo dallaire, the head of the canadian contingent sent by the u.n. to genocide-days rwanda.

honestly, it was the first time i've heard of the bloody and pathetic rwanda genocide in 1994. what started out as tribal conflict, became one of, if not, the worst ever case of mass killings in history. it is indeed such a senseless, pathetic mass killing which those western countries could have helped prevent. instead, all of those strongpowers focused on the trial of oj simpson and the yugoslavian conflict.

i was struck with a statement of dallaire. one big reason why u.n. member countries like france and belgium pulled out their peacekeeping troops from rwanda was that IT WAS RWANDA. rwanda was just a poor african nation. which they would have little benefit from. which was a nation of black people. those countries instead sent their peacekeeping troops to yugoslavia, also an ethnic war-torn country at that time. in yugoslavia, it was different. IT WAS YUGOSLAVIA. yugoslavia was a key european nation. which they would have bigger benefit from. which was a nation of white people.

...talk about self-interest, greater publicity, discrimination, and shit!

it was so awful seeing clips from the documentary of how an inhuman human being whack and slash to death another human being just because of a false tribal belief... lifeless and partless bodies lay on streets, churches, fields, one on top of another.

now, it all makes sense. look at just what kind of discrimination rich countries pose on african countries. now it so makes more reason why those bastardly rich countries should help africa economically and in any way possible. now it is so meaningful why the g8 should cancel all african nations' debts, why the g8 should double their african aid, why the g8 should charter a fair trade policy.

how our country needs them too and badly is how africa needs them the most.

pinoybland

UNITEL CANCELLED PINOY/BLONDE KICK-OFF PARTY.

ayoko nang pag-usapan pa.

depressing. =(

anyway, i hope to make a review of Pinoy/Blonde in a few days. the vip screening was fab. i saw epy, boy2, iza calzado, peque, phoemela, lhar santiago, oh and some feeling vip's. ahehehe. like me. =)

monita mania

i was tuning in to CNN this weekend basically for two main reasons:

first: for the coverage of LIVE 8 CONCERTS. live from tokyo, johannesburg, moscow, berlin, rome, london, paris, barrie, and philadelphia, these are concerts which aim to get as much names worldwide that will pressure the G8 countries (usa, uk, germany, france, italy, russia, canada, and japan) on their summit on the sixth of july to push for a 3-point plan that will literally make poverty in africa history.

the 3-point plan includes: (1) erase all the debt of african nations, (2) double the aid, and (3) create a fair trade.

although africa was not well-represented in the concerts, which is becoming another issue, i think the organisers did a job well done.

second: well, of course, because of cnn anchor monita rajpal. haven't seen her for a long time now. hehehe. she was reporting from the london live 8 concert in hyde park. and it was the first time i've seen her reporting live outside the studio. and as always, she was astoundingly gorgeous. here's a picture of her:

isn't she just lovely?
